The Sports Development Team was established in 1996 when East Lothian Council took the bold and visionary step of publishing its Sports Development Strategy.  The strategy clearly set out how East Lothian Council would develop and promote sport across a number of services.

Pivotal to the delivery of the strategy was the establishment of a sports specific development team under the guidance of a principal officer of sports development.  10 years later and the Sports Development Team continues to be amongst the standard bearers in Scottish Sport. The team have contributed to the formulation of the Healthy Living Service’s strategic plan, Active East Lothian and the team’s impact on individual and team performances can clearly be seen in the report on East Lothian District Squad Success.

East Lothian Youth Games 2009

.

On Wednesday 13th May Meadowmill Sports Centre once again played host to the annual East Lothian Youth Games for S1 and S2 pupils in the region. Over 500 enthusiastic participants competed in a variety of sports including, Football, Rugby, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and Basketball. Feedback on the day indicated that everyone had a fun filled but somewhat competitive day as the schools battled against one another for kudos in every sport. On this particular Sunkist day it was Preston Lodge High School who reined supreme, winning the prestigious East Lothian Youth Games Champions trophy for the first time ever.

The following day saw the inclusion of the Multi-Sport element for the third year running for those secondary pupils with varying physical and learning disabilities. Representatives from East Lothian’s secondary schools competed in Archery, New-age Curling and Boccia. The event proved to be a great success, with over 35 participants socialising, having fun, competing and generally having a great day out.
