20 golfing Santas braved the elements at North Berwick Children’s Course on Sunday 11th December to compete in a Santa Scramble competiton. Despite recent snow and hurricane force winds the weather decided to be kind on the day and the sun was shining. The Santas scoring was good with the winning team shooting a level par 27 and 3 teams were tied for 2nd on 29. Well done to all the Santas and huge thanks Joan Lunn and Fiona MacIver for organising.

Clubgolf East Lothian 2011 Season Update
2011 was our 7th year rolling out the clubgolf programme in East Lothian and our 5th year in all our primary schools. 6 sessions are delivered in school as part of Primary 5 Curriculum PE in all 33 Primary Schools. This includes a session with East Lothian’s Golf Development Officer when we play a “round of golf” in the school playing fields.   Around 1000 Primary 5 children received firstclubgolf in East Lothian in 2011. 180 choose to progress onto clubgolf Stage 1 after school, an 18% uptake, and confirms that golf continues to be a very popular sport in our local authority.

East Lothian Fun Competitions Order of Merit
Over the 2011 golf season juniors have been clocking up points in the East Lothian Fun Competitions Order or Merit. Players had the opportunity to play lots of different competition formats hosted by East Lothian clubs. Players competed in 2 divisions: Handicap/S1+ and Silver Non Handicap/P7 and below.

Congratulations to Oliver Ladbrooke of Gullane Golf Club for winning the Handicap Division.   It was a fight to the end for the top spot with Oliver just beating Castlepark’s Connor Wilson into 2nd place at the last competition held at Gifford. This in turn resulted in Oliver coming out top in the order of merit and Connor coming a very respectable 2nd, especially as he has only just gone into P6! Oliver who joined the clubgolf programme at Gullane Golf Club in 2006 has managed to get his handicap down to 8 this season which is a fantastic achievement. Oliver has shown real dedication to his golf over the past 7 years and has been a great role model to the younger players in the programme.
Congratulations also to Euan MacIver of The Glen Golf Club for winning the Silver Division. This was Euan’s first season playing in the fun comps as he has only just gone into Primary 6 and completed clubgolf Stage 1 Year 1 this season. I had the opportunity to walk with the group that Euan was part of at the Gifford Flag comp and he put up a valiant effort which secured him the top spot overall. Well done!
The top 6 Order of Merit players from each of the divisions qualified for a prize winners clinic at Kingsfield Golf Centre in Linlithgow where they competed in a trackman competition, putting competition and received a swing analysis session with PGA Pro Jane Connachan. Photo above.
Thanks to all the clubs for hosting these fun comps and giving the players the opportunity to play on a variety of excellent local courses.
Thanks also to all the volunteers that supported the running of these events on the day. Without this support we couldn’t offer these opportunities so it is really appreciated - especially by the children.
