
The first flags are flying at Longniddry Golf Club
Well done to everyone that came along to the first Flag Competition of the season at Longniddry on Friday 23rd March 2012. The conditions were ideal for golf and we had a great turn out with 23 players attending despite the late time change. Thanks to everyone for being so accomodating and also to the parents and coaches for your support walking round with the groups. Your support was much needed and very much appreciated. This competition was in aid of Sport Relief so each player received Sport Relief socks in return for their entry fee! Please find results below:

The Fun Competitions count towards the East Lothian Junior Fun Competition Order of Merit. The 6 players in each category with the most points at the end of the season qualify for a Prize Winners Workshop. The following points are awarded in each category towards the Order of Merit:

5th 10 pts

Clubgolf Team Championship
Venue: Craigielaw’s South Course (Short 6 hole course)
Date: Wed 11th April 2012
Start: 1000 Pick up: 1230
Format: Players should enter individually and I make up teams of 3 or 4 which compete in 6 hole comp, chipping and putting competition. Prizes for each individual competition and also for the overall winning team. Great format and lots of fun. Open to players with or without handicaps of any standard.

Date: Fri 20th April
Venue: Gullane Course # 3
Tee Times: 1330 - 1430
Pick up: 2 hours after tee time
NB: This competition is being sponsored by the Stephen Gallagher Foundation.
9 – 12 year olds can also gain points towards the Stephen Gallagher Order of Merit by playing in this competition. Extra prizes and good bags will be available to all ages of players.
Better suited to players with some golf playing experience due to difficulty of the course.
Clubgolf Coaching
The clubgolf coaching season is due to start up again from the Easter Holidays onwards in the following areas: Musselburgh, Longniddry, Haddington, Castlepark, Gullane, North Berwick and Dunbar. These sessions are open to players in P6 and above. P5’s will be invited to join the clubgolf coaching programme in May 2012. Become a PGA Level 1 Volunteer Coach
The junior golf programme in East Lothian is always looking for golfers to become Level 1 coaches. In order to gain your Level 1 Coaching license you need to:
- Attend a PGA Level 1 Training weekend.
- Complete a PVG application
- Attend a Safe Guarding and Protecting Children Workshop
The training weekend costs £170 however your club or East Lothian Council will fund this in return for a commitment to around 20 hours of voluntary coaching. Licensed coaches can deliver 40 hours of clubgolf Stage 1 from the clubgolf coaching manual covering the 3 basic shots and on course. Coaches deliver in pairs to groups of 10 children max.
