Walter Borthwick
Walter joined the Sports Development at East Lothian in 1996, he had previously held SFA posts at Dunfermline Athletic as Community Coach and the Scottish Borders Council as Development Officer.
Walter had a long playing career in football, he turned professional at 17 when he joined Greenock Morton, he then moved on to East Fife, St Mirren FC, St Johnstone FC and finally Dunfermline FC. He also represented Scotland at under 18 level.
Walter gained all the relevant SFA Qualifications, A Licence, Youth Licence and Childrens Licence.
When his playing career finished, he moved into coaching. Following a two year spell as Player/Coach at Dunfermline FC, he moved to Heart of Midlothian in 1981 were he had a successful time with Hearts through the eighties and became Assistant Manager in 1987. On leaving Hearts in 1990, he became Manager of Arbroath FC. He left this post in 1991 to take up the Development post with the SFA.
